Sersi is a marvel Eternal and one of the most powerful characters in the marvel universe. She was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby when they wanted to add diversity to their comic books. Sersi has many abilities such as shape-shifting, telepathy, empathy, energy projection, time travel and more!
If you are like me you had no idea who the Eternals were until you saw them on the list to be released in the next Phase of the MCU. So like any good comic nerd I got to reading. What I learned is the Eternals are like the Avengers if they were made up of Thanos and his cousins. I mean they are really powerful. It’s interesting that Sersi like the rest of them have very similar powers. What it seems me is that when Jack Kirby was coming up with this idea he made a group who all were equally powerful and then made each one become a specialist. Sersi for example is the manipulation of energy and throwing parties.
How old is Sersi in Marvel
She is freaking old. Depending on what you read the basic story is that the Celestial (Go watch Guardians of the Galaxy part 2, Star Lord’s Daddy) created the Eternals thousands of years ago. So these Eternals have been watching humans evolve from ancient times.
What are Sersi Powers
Sersi, a Marvel Eternal first appearing in Thor #267 (May 1982), possesses powers including immortality, indestructibility, and superhuman strength on the order of Gilgamesh. She is telepathic but only to a lesser degree with respect to most other Eternals; she has skills that include illusion making her able to influence weaker minds.
Where is Sersi in the Modern Marvel Timeframe
She currently or most recently lives in New York. She is a party planner or was and this is interesting how she ended up mixing with the Avengers in some storylines. It is also likely how the MCU will bring her into the movie world. She will either go down the path of becoming an Avenger or it will be her summoning the Eternals because of the Deviants who will attack the city and then her being captured. They could probably do something that shows her throwing a party, introduce She hulk in the story and then the Avengers come to help, and then bam who are these Eternals. I am pretty excited to see the new movie hopefully when it comes out what I just wrote is accurate.
Is Sersi an avenger
Sersi has been appearing in Avengers comics since the 60s. As a matter of fact, the Avengers have had multiple Eternals on the team and this does include Sersi. She was a member in the 90s and joined after Gilgamesh and fellow Eternal was hurt. Her part in the avengers was kind of cut short due to what was going on in the comics but more about what was going on in the real world. Marvel purchased another comic company called Malibu comics in 1994. After this purchase, they starting crossing over Marvel characters into the Ultraverse which was Malibu’s world.
So in general she has been an Avenger and has mixed up with them off and on for years. It’s kind of like some other characters whose main groups are one thing but that have also been part of the Avengers, like Wolverine who is of course an X-Men but also runs with the Avengers.
Who is Sersi simular to in Marvel or DC
It’s no surprise that since Jack Kirby has comics in both Marvel and DC that Sersi or at least the Eternals have a similar counterpart in DC. the New Gods are the DC counterpart. When you get really into it you will see that it has some major links like Darkseid who most people claim that Thanos was borrowed from. There is also a Ragnarok and a highfather…..Thor… Odin hmmmm.
What Sersi Comic do you read
The best place to start reading Sersi comics is Eternals #5 from 1976. the reason I picked this one for the top spot is that it’s highly likely to be the storyline that MCU takes to introduce the Eternals into the world. This is the comic that Sersi is captured by the Deviants and brought back to their undersea kingdom. another reason I hope this is the story they use is that it gives them a way to introduce Namor if they wanted to since it’s an undersea kingdom. Then if we follow that logic the MCU could bring in the X-men since Namor would be the first MCU mutant.
Once you get past this issue there are about 20+ Avengers issues you can read that she is in starting with Avengers #246 in 1963 up until around issue #378. She is not in all of them but a fair amount. After that, she made a few appearances from Avengers #1 1998 to Avengers #27 1998.
Sersi Love Life
Sersi’s love life in the comics has been interesting. She started to lose her mind which the other Eternals thought was due to being alive so long and decided she needed a soulmate. This tied her into a bond with the Black Knight who was actually in love with someone else. Then as the story goes on we learn that spoiler alert the reason she is losing her mind is that the Black Night from an alternate timeline called the Proctor was doing it. He was mad because Sersi rejected him in his timeline. Wow, now that is a love triangle.
Conclusion
Sersi’s character is a great example of how Marvel has always been willing to explore the many facets of what it means to be human. Her story reflects that humans are complex and diverse, but also resilient in the face of adversity. And she can show you how being immortal can still make life worth living! We hope this blog post was helpful for introducing some new readers into her world and invite them to read more. She’s waiting for you on Marvel Unlimted or in your local comic book store.
