I don’t know about you but when I first hear that Jane Foster would become Thor in the MCU my first thought was what the heck will that be like. So I did what any good comic nerd does I started reading the comics to get a feel and any insight on what to expect from “Thor God of Love and Thunder”.
I released right away that there were a lot more Jane Foster Thor comics than I had assumed. For some reason, I was figuring they hand a small handful where some strange villain thought it would be funny to make Thor’s girlfriend Thor. Well, I was wrong there are around 40 comics with Jane Foster as Thor.
I will summarize and review the Jane Foster Thor Comics below so that you can either skip them while knowing the cliff notes or decide based on my feedback, they are worth the read. I can’t tell you until the summary of this post what I think about them because well…… I am reading and writing this post as I go. With so many comics I didn’t want to just read all the way through and then say it was good or bad but not even remember any details.
If you are just looking for when they heck did Jane become Thor check out Original Sin. This is the storyline that the Original Thor found himself unworthy to wield Mjolnir. We will be writing a review which you can read here, as soon as we write it.
The below review of Jane Foster Thor comics can be found on Marvel Unlimited so happy reading.
The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Issue #8 (Aug 2015)
If you are a fan of Squirrel Girl, then I am sure you will enjoy this story. Due to Loki a big four-legged hmm. I am not sure what it was maybe a rodent mixed with a lizard. Either way, Loki being well Loki accidentally lets Ratatoskr out of prison. Ok with a name like Ratatoskr it was defiantly a rat mixed with a lizard….. or something.
Either way, the Lizard is out and Jane Fosters Thor comes down to help Squirrel girl deal with it.
Throughout the comic Loki makes references to how Odinson isn’t worthy anymore and how he doesn’t know what to call him. In the end, the best part of the comic to me is Loki turning himself into Cat Thor making fun of his brother. He even calls his hammer Mewnir which I thought was great.
Check out this Cat Thor, Ratatoskr, Squirrel comic if you want to get one of the first glimpses of Jane Foster as Thor.
The Totally Awesome Hulk Issue #6 (May 2016)
Well if you have never read Hulk Comics with Amadeus Cho, this will be your introduction to not only the second time we see Jane Foster Thor also the first time you may be introduced to the Asian Hulk.
The story doesn’t go into any details on why Cho is the Hulk although he does say a few times that he is the new Hulk. So if you are looking for any of the info you will have to check out Amadeus Cho Hulk Comic post as soon as we write it.
This storyline shows Jane Foster Thor showing up and demanding to know why Hulk broke into their secret stronghold with the Dwarfs and stole the Uru. If you don’t know what Uru is that is what they forged the Asgardian weapons like Mjolnir out of.
In the end, they do battle with the Enchantress and you find out why Hulk helped her in the first place. This comic is a good one to see Jane Foster Thor dealing with the Cho Hulk. It gives us a better glimpse of Jane Foster with Thor’s abilities and strength. It also lets you see a pretty cool new Hulk in Amadeus Cho.
All-New, All-Different Avengers #10
Like the title of this series states, this is the Avengers but with some new members. One of which is Jane fosters Thor. The rest of the team is a mix of old and new. You still have Iron Man and Vision, Falcon is as his Captain America version of himself. Then you have a few new members along with Jane Foster Thor. These include Ms. Marvel, Nova, and Spider-Man aka Miles Morales.
This story starts off quickly with the team searching for Nova’s father in space. Of course, the road gets a little bumpy and they end up prisoners with mysterious defenses and strange creatures that are making people disappear. Then of course you learn there are villains behind the madness. My favorite image in the comic is when the team is fighting Annihilus. When he comes into the story it makes the entire comic worth the read. Great artwork and great setups for the story.
Venomized #3 (April 2018)
Ok I skipped a few comics in the Jane Foster comic string when I saw this one. I mean who doesn’t love to read a good storyline with symbiote taking over all your favorite heroes and villains. In this storyline, there is a group called the poisons that are traveling through the multiverse and wreaking havoc. At the start of issue #3, it shows Jane Foster Thor bonded with a symbiote about to beat the heck out of Captain America. Well of course right before it gets violent Symbiote challenges Jane Foster’s ability to be worthy.
Out of all the Jane foster comics I read on my review of the character this one was by far my favorite. The reason has zero to do with Jane foster but everything to do with seeing some of my favorite people mixed with symbiotes. There is even a fight between the current iron fist and a different dimensions iron fist that was taken over by a symbiote.
The Rest of the Jane Foster Thor Comics
Ok, I really didn’t think I would enjoy any of the Jane Foster Thor comics. I figured that I really liked Thor but half of the reason was that he was all dude. It talked smack, though he was the best thing since sliced bread, etc. I did end up giving Jane Foster Thor comics a chance and I will say I was not disappointed.
As of today I still have a ton of Jane Foster Comics to read. I will continue and update this post as I go but for now, I will say they were not bad. She has not stood out as of yet and made me want to see what happens next but from the things I have seen the writers have done a good job with her.
